Exam Scoring

Post by NS_Tutor_Sophia » Fri Jun 14, 2019 1:12 pm

A student recently asked us about how NS PCAT exams are scored. Since every exam is unique, every Pearson and Next Step PCAT exam has a unique scoring scale tailored to student performance on that exam. The Next Step scoring scales were developed based on the distribution of student scores on each exam so that the percentile ranking you receive is representative of your performance relative to all students taking that exam.0

What this means is that scaled scores may correspond to different percentile rankings on two different tests - a 450 may be in the 45th percentile on one exam and a 55th percentile on another, and this is also true on the official PCAT tests. However, a 50th percentile on any test means that you have scored better than 50% of test-takers. For this reason, we recommend you rely on percentile rankings to evaluate your performance - this is also the measure that pharmacy programs will use to evaluate your application.
