A student recently asked us why we don't take into account NaI dissolving into Na+ and I- when calculating molality, which is a great question! NaI is indeed a soluble compound, but the trick is not to confuse molality with normality. Molality is defined as the number of moles of the entire compound divided by kilograms per solvent, whereas normality asks for the number of mole equivalents per liters. Therefore, only to calculate normality would we take into account the number of ions into which NaI dissolves.
