Post by sarita0518 » Sat Mar 16, 2019 1:08 am

hi-

can you please explain question 1. When it says 6 billion base pairs- does this refer to only one of the strands of DNA?

Thanks

It actually says "six billion base pairs" so that tells us we have a total of 12 million nucleotides. To copy the DNA, we'd need to add six billion nucleotides to two separate single strands to end up with two dsDNA strands. So we'd add 12 billion total nucleotides.

Thanks for the question!
