Can you please explain the distinction between atypical antipsychotics, typical antipsychotics and neuroleptics

Neuroleptics are typical antipsychotics, also called first-generation antipsychotics or simply tranquilizers. A fairly symptom-directed approach to managing problems: You can't cause trouble if you're sedated.

Atypical antipsychotics are also known as second generation antipsychotics and generally cause less sedation and fewer broad side effects, although in general they are still, to put it mildly, potentially dangerous and inhumane.
