A student recently wrote us: "I believe the pedigree chart in the question stem is missing a legend."
This pedigree chart is not missing a legend. The pedigree in the question stem contains all of the information necessary to answer this question, which are the sexes of the insects. For the MCAT, you are expected to know that squares and circles represent males and females, respectively. The other symbol that may be confusing is the apostrophe superscripted to the inverted alleles. What the apostrophes mean can be inferred by the passage information.
